Azure | CCoE | Multi-region | 1,000+ AVD users | GxP compliance
In a project within a Life sciences vertical, I worked within an Azure Cloud Centre of Excellence (CCoE) team to help architect, build and extend Azure services being used within the organisation. The organisation had following key challenges:
- Inconsistencies in managing a large Azure tenant.
- Azure Virtual Desktop PoC to MVP for multi-regional usecase.
- Inefficient Azure Policy management leading to governance issues.
- No strategic ways to deploy and manage Azure infrastructure.
- Azure configuration sprawl leading to confusing platform marketing within the org.
- Slow release due to strict GxP compliant requirements.
Outcomes
-
Standardised Release Cadence: Replaced manual, inconsistent deployment processes with a GitHub Actions-driven framework, enabling predictable, GxP-aligned release cycles for the platform team.
-
Enterprise-Scale AVD Delivery: Scaled Azure Virtual Desktop from PoC to production MVP, supporting 1,000+ users across APAC with role-specific builds for lab developers, data scientists, and standard users.
-
Improved Governance & Compliance: Decoupled policy management from legacy CAF configurations, migrating 500+ Azure policies and implemented Azure EPAC, delivering isolated, auditable guardrails aligned with Security & Compliance requirements.
-
Operational Efficiency Gains: Reduced time spent on configuration sprawl and reactive firefighting, freeing the CCoE team to focus on platform standardisation, ServiceNOW-integrated subscription vending, and developer enablement.
-
Platform Adoption & Stability: Delivered a compliant, self-service Azure foundation that accelerated onboarding for multi-regional teams while maintaining strict Life Sciences regulatory standards.
